Training

We provide generic and bespoke training packages depending on your needs or the needs of your service.

For service training, we will discuss the strengths and needs of your service and devise a training programme specifically for your service. If required, we can use an audit-based approach to intensely support staff in a highly targeted intervention. All of our training packages include theoretical teaching alongside practical activities to ensure learning is taken outside of the classroom. Our training packages are delivered in a creative and engaging way and is suitable for all skill levels.

Some of our example communication training packages:

  • Foundation level communication training: what is communication, what can go wrong, how you can help and when to refer to SLT
  • Communication and challenging behaviour: how communication is linked to challenging behaviour, how communication is vital to PBS and how to support people
  • How to complete a communication screen and what to do with the information: training in delivering a communication screen and how to use the information in a care plan
  • Communication training around individual needs e.g. learning disability, autism, dementia, aphasia or training around specific client: what a learning disability is, how it can impact on communication, how you can help and when to refer to SLT
  • Creating a Total Communication Environment:  what total communication environments are, why are they used and how to implement one
  • A career in Speech and Language Therapy: overview of how and where to train as an SLT, what a day in the life of an SLT looks like and the different settings and career paths you can take

And some of our example dysphagia training packages:

  • Foundation level dysphagia awareness training: what is dysphagia, the four stages of the normal swallow, what can go wrong, how you can help and when to refer to SLT
  • IDDSI awareness training: what is IDDSI and how to prepare food and drink and ensure they are IDDSI compliant
  • Providing safe and effective mouth care: why is mouth care important, how can we identify people with mouth care needs and practical training in HOW to deliver mouth care
  • Creating a safe & enjoyable mealtime environment: why is this important, what are we currently doing and how can we change the environment to benefit people’s nutrition, swallowing function and quality of life

We would consider working closely with a service provider on a targeted project, such as upskilling Communication Champions within your service to provide communication screening, specialised communication care plans and the ability to develop total communication environments for all service users. We can also provide service level agreements for Speech Therapy, for example you can contract half a day per week to offer your clients regular speech therapy input as part of their package of care.  Prices for our training services vary on a case by case basis, so please do contact us here for a discussion.
