Frequently Asked Questions

We appreciate that looking for a therapist can be overwhelming and leave you with a lot of unanswered questions, so we thought it would be helpful to put together a list of frequently asked questions. If there is anything we have not answered for you, please get in touch and let us know.


  • What does a speech and language therapist do? Check out our post What is the role of a Speech and Language Therapist? and our Services pages to better understand what a speech and language therapist actually does.
  • Who do you work with? We work with older children aged 11+ and adults with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Do I need a referral to access your services? You do not need a referral to access our services, simply get in touch via the Contact form on our website and we will try to get in touch within three working days to discuss your needs. 
  • Do you provide a free consultation? Yes, we offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to make sure we are the best fit for you.
  • How do I book an appointment? After you have completed a contact form we will contact you to discuss therapy input and book an appointment.
  • Where are you based, and do you offer home visits or online sessions? We offer home visits, online sessions and clinic appointments at our clinic location in Liverpool city centre. 
  • What happens during the first appointment? During your first appointment we will gather information about your condition, assess your speech, language, communication and/or swallowing and give you an indication of the type of therapy we would recommend.
  • How long are therapy sessions, and how many will I need? The honest answer is, we don’t know. It is very much dependent on your individual needs and goals. Sessions tend to last somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes – this will be discussed with you in advance and agreed according to your preferences and our recommendation.
  • Can family members or carers be involved in therapy? Yes they can and in fact we encourage it! We often advise on practicing in between sessions and it is really helpful if you have someone there to support you.
  • How do you measure progress in therapy? We measure progress in lots of different ways either through formal outcome measures, informal outcome measures e.g. how confident do you feel about your speech, observation and how you feel your therapy is going.
  • How much does therapy cost? This is dependent on your needs and will be discussed with you before any appointments are booked.
  • Do you accept private health insurance or funding through case managers? Yes, we are both registered with the Private Practice Register, which covers a number of different insurers including BUPA and AXA. We also provide medicolegal assessment and therapy for both communication and dysphagia.
  • What’s your cancellation policy? As per our Terms and Conditions therapy sessions cancelled with more than 24 hours’ notice will not incur a charge. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full for the session.
  • What qualifications and experience do you have? We are both HCPC registered Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists with each well over a decade of experience as therapists. You can have a read of our About Us sections to learn more.
  • Are you registered with any professional bodies (e.g., HCPC, RCSLT)? Yes we are both registered with HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council), RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists) and ASLTIP (Association for Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice).
  • Do you work alongside other healthcare professionals? Yes we often work as part of a team with our clients. If you need signposting to any other professionals, please do let us know.
